Year 3/4 News

Fri 12 May 2017

It has been another tremendous week in the superb world of year 3/4!

In English, the children have written brilliant Caribbean stories that contained lots of wonderful descriptive language.

In Maths, year 4 have brought their learning non decimals and fractions to a high level conclusion with the children rounding decimals and dividing numbers by 100. In year 3, our mathematicians have added and subtracted money as well as calculating change.

There were two wonderful class assemblies in year 3/4 this week!

Tuesday’s assembly was Pickwick’s chance to teach the school about the upcoming general election. the children produced party election broadcasts, came up with policies and even took part in a live political debate where each party leader took questions from the audience. The children worked extremely hard and I was very proud to see them understand how powerful democracy can be. Well done to our political Pickwickers!

On Thursday, it was the turn of Oliver class to retell the story of Gregory Cool. The children dressed in their finest beach attire and showed their brilliant Caribbean art. The children showed off their story telling and acting skills but my favourite part of the assembly was definitely the song! It was based on “Keep on moving’” by everyone’s late 90s boyband, Five. Well done on a brilliant assembly!

And finally, if you love cake and football (I know I do!) AJ in year 3 will be selling cakes in aid of UNICEF after football club on Fridays.

Year 3/4 News

Fri 19 May 2017

It’s been yet another busy week in the busy world of busy year 3/4. Busy.

In Mathematics, year 3 have waved a fond farewell to the topic of money. The children have ushered in the complex and mesmerising world of time. Clocks have been studied and manipulated and timetables have been read and understand. All wonderful. In year 4, the children have moved onto counting, rounding and solving problems about money.

This week’s English has involved the acquisition of loads of knowledge about the tropical Caribbean paradise of St Lucia. The children interviewed the wonderful Mrs Mesmain about her childhood and subsequent visits to St Lucia and found out a lot about lifestyle, music, food and trade of the island nation. Later in the week, the children got to try Caribbean food and wrote wonderful expanded noun phrases about the taste and texture of the exotic cuisine.

On Thursday, all four classes went on a trip to St Paul’s Cathedral. The children got to learn about the magnificent building and were told about the features of a Christian place of worship. Some lucky children even got to dress up as a Bishop! Our tour guides were extremely complimentary about the behaviour and attitude of the children and have even offered us more trips and support with whatever we may need. I was extremely proud to be told by one of the guides that, “Children in year 3 and 4 are never this well behaved. Your children are wonderfully behaved and ask brilliant questions.”
